I know for people in my line of work there are plenty of holidays you don't get to spend with your family. So this weekend I am spending my thanksgiving time with my parents. I unexpectedly managed to get a couple of days off in a row (4 actually). So I packed a bag and drove over to the next state to visit some friends and family. A rare treat to be sure. I've spent some time thinking about how many years I've been cooking and how few of the people in my life have ever eaten food I have prepared. I know with the mad hours of this business the little time we do get to spend together they don't want to spend the time with me in the kitchen. So usually we just go out somewhere to eat. I have limited enjoyment in dining out. Most of the time I can prepare a better meal myself, or I have to spend a lot of money on the meal for it to be very enjoyable.
My coming was a surprise to everyone and I did finally get to cook for my family and a couple of friends. It was a simple meal, but was greatly enjoyed by everyone. Much to my pleasure.
