I have an old friend John. He is the one who introduced me to this business on a professional level. Shortly after visiting this city I found myself living on his couch, going to school and waiting tables to get by. I couldn't find work in a kitchen here for 3 months. When I finally did find a job it was he who dropped my name to the chef. The place was newly opened and was THE place to go for a short period of time. The dining room was laid out with angled mirrors all along the edge of the ceiling to allow for inconspicuous spying on all of the other tables. Great for the see and be seen crowd.
Monday were Turner Classic Movie night. A 10'x12' screen was put up in the courtyard. A masterful move for bringing in customers on what is usually a dull night for restaurants.
One night we did a party for a rap producer. All of the tables and chairs were placed in storage to open the floorspace. There were posh Cadillacs to test drive in the parking lot, and there was a cage erected in the courtyard complete with two juveline tigers on display. We kept teasing one of the guys we were going to give him a mop, put and bucket on his head and make him go fight the tigers.
