Last night we had the fire alarm go off a few minutes after midnight. This is just a few minutes after we have closed the restaurant for the evening. All of a sudden the alarm and automated voice starts broadcasting, "The fire alarm has been activated. Please proceed out of the building. Do not use the elevators. Thank you for your cooperation." This is accompanied by flashing lights and a siren. We have 400 rooms. Thankfully we weren't completely booked (maybe 315 rooms), but there were quite a few unhappy guests in our lobby. Many of them were in their robes, and many of them were quite upset.

As it turned out there was no real emergency. The sprinkler system did not have enough pressure in it so the alarm was set off. Basically if there had been a fire the sprinkler system would not have been completely operational and this was the reason for the setting off of the alarm. The fire department sent out 4 engines and a fire chief. I can't help but think that something regarding water pressure should not have taken so many firefighters away from the station. If there had been an actual emergency in another location someone may have ended up badly injured. I am going to speak to the GM (or whoever I need to) about what could be a serious problem. With the computer capabilities we now have there isn't any reason to be sending 4 engines to a site where there is no emergency and there is no fire.
